Anikulapo is a Nigerian movie that was released in September 2022. The movie is about a zealous traveler, After an affair with the king's wife leads to his demise, he encounters a mystical bird with the power to give him another chance. However, some critics have argued that the movie is too graphic and disturbing for younger viewers.
Despite its controversial subject matter, Anikulapo is a well-made movie that is definitely worth watching. The acting is excellent, and the film's overall message is important. Anikulapo is a must-see film.
Is it worth the hype?
It all started with a tweet by popular filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan, which got people talking. He shared a photo of himself and his daughter on set with the caption; “I hope you guys are ready for the Anikulapo movie." It’s been a while since I’ve been this excited about any project. My daughter loves it too! "
With such an endorsement from such a big name in the industry, there was no way the movie wasn’t going to be hyped. And it lived up to the hype!
The movie tells the story of Anikulapo, a young girl who is gifted with special powers. She uses these powers to help her community and fight evil forces.
The acting is great, especially by lead actress Bimbo Ademoye, who brings the character of Anikulapo to life. The action scenes are well-choreographed and thrilling. Overall, it is an enjoyable movie that is definitely worth watching.

The movie Anikulápó tells the tale of Saro (played by Kunle Remi), a traditional textile weaver who employs the aso-ofi loom and method and has only lately arrived in Oyo. Queen Arolake (played by Bimbo Ademoye) has an unpleasant marriage since she is not interested in the king but is required to lie with him, and Saro has an illegal relationship. Young and disinterested in the elder king's continual attention. Due to his fondness, she is treated poorly by the other, older queens, with whom she has rivalries. She and Saro started dating. As they prepare to go, the king learns of their relationship and executes Saro. Saro receives the ability to raise the dead via the shrewd deeds of Arolake and acquires the moniker Anikulapo (Anklápó), which means the "one that has died in his purse," based on the mythological Akala bird that awakens him from death. Saro betrays Arolake when he gains popularity in his new community, Ojumo, by setting his amorous sights on other women. Before he can revive the dead, he starts to make excessive demands on the locals, which is hubris. Arolake's influence is undermined when she leaves him after learning that Saro wants the king's daughter before he can give the heir back his life. Saro attempts to bring the prince back to life and learns he no longer possesses the power to tame death.
The movie is very inspiring and well-made. It definitely lives up to the hype. If you're looking for an inspirational story, this is definitely the movie for you.

Haven’t seen it though but from the triller, it’s worth the hype..
